Classic comic book heroes live in a time that's almost at a standstill. Asterix and Obelix are still resisting Caesar's troops. Lucky Luke remains a poor lonesome cowboy. The Peanuts kids never age. Tintin and Captain Haddock remember their previous adventures, but they don't age. With Blueberry, Corto Maltese and most modern comics, the characters leave the world of the eternal present to enter the world of history. They abandon myth to enter the realm of the novel. This new relationship with time is at the heart of the aptly named graphic novels, including Art Spiegelman's seminal Maus.
