Collège de France, associate member of PSL University

Thomas Römer, Administrator of the Collège de France, and Alain Fuchs, President of Université PSL, signed the partnership agreement between the two institutions on Tuesday November 19, 2019. It sets out the institutional relations and scientific collaborations between Collège de France and PSL University, of which it is an associate member.

The decree creating the Université PSL and the statutes of this new establishment were published in the Journal officiel on November 6, 2019.

The decree recognizes PSL as a full-fledged university formed by the merger of 9 component institutions (Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique, École nationale des chartes, École nationale supérieure de chimie de Paris, École nationale supérieure des mines de Paris, École normale supérieure, École pratique des hautes études, ESPCI Paris, Observatoire de Paris, Paris-Dauphine), 2 associate members (Collège de France, Institut Curie) and 3 research organizations (CNRS, Inserm, Inria). While the Collège de France is a full member of the new institution, the President of Université PSL has a seat on the Collège de France Board of Governors.

On the occasion of the signing of the agreement, Professor Thomas Römer recalled that Collège de France had been an integral part of the PSL adventure since the creation of the Fondation Paris Sciences et Lettres, which prefigured its scope, in April 2010. He also emphasized the extent to which the framework offered by this agreement and the associate member status granted to Collège de France would enable it to contribute actively to the operation of the bodies and scientific excellence of the new university, while preserving the specific characteristics of Collège de France.

Located in the heart of Paris,Université PSL brings together all areas of knowledge, innovation and creation in the sciences, humanities, social sciences, engineering and the arts. Selective and committed to equal opportunity, it trains researchers, artists, entrepreneurs and managers who are aware of their individual and collective social responsibility.

With 2,900 teaching and research staff, 17,000 students, 140 laboratories and a dozen incubators, fablabs and coworking spaces, PSL is a university on a human scale. It is ranked among the world's top 50 universities by THE (Times Higher Education) and QS (Quacquarelli Symonds).
