The Collège de France Publishing Department publishes around twenty books a year, in all disciplines, in both print and digital formats. These are research works, but most are intended for a wider audience than just peers. Inaugural lectures by new professors, abstracts of lectures (published in theAnnuaire du Collège de France since 1901), research works, lecture series, symposium proceedings, closing lectures : they all stem from lectures given at the Collège de France or are rooted in research carried out within the institution.
Some of these books are also published (exclusively in digital form) in English or other languages. Three of the collections are also co-published. Manuscripts are selected by the Conseil des bibliothèques, des archives et des éditions, made up of Collège de France professors. The e-books are on sale in digital bookshops, but the full text is also available free of charge, in open access, on the OpenEdition Books portal. Making published books available to the general public, in the same way as audiovisual recordings and recordings of lectures, is part of the dissemination of knowledge, the third major mission of the Collège de France. More than 200 books are now available online free of charge.
Printed books can be purchased or ordered from bookshops. They can also be obtained from the reception desk of the Collège de France heritage library. Several chairs and research centers of the Collège de France also publish books, in print and/or digital form (with an open access version on OpenEdition Books). A collection of exhibition catalogs was also launched in 2015.
Finally, scientific journals are published by chairs, laboratories or research teams, some of which take a particularly open and innovative form, such as Entre-temps, De facto or La Vie des idées.
