Annual Chairs
Annual Chairs at the Collège de France are awarded to professors, researchers and, in some cases, writers and artists, who are invited to give an inaugural lecture and complete a teaching cycle at the institution during a single academic year. Nominations, put forward by a small group of professors, are presented and voted on at one of the Collège de France assemblies.
Each of these Chairs revolves around a major theme, guaranteeing the diversity and complementarity of scientific approaches over several years. Each is also supported by a partner or sponsor of the Collège de France, which may be a public body, an international organization or a private foundation.
In this way, the annual Chairs enrich and renew the teaching and research program of the Collège de France, often in areas where the dialogue between science and society deserves to be supported or which are particularly topical, and are supported by a network of loyal partners who further enhance their scope and dissemination.
