At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, thanks to the Benday technique, American newspapers welcomed large-format supplements in vibrant colors every Sunday. For Lyonel Feininger, George Herriman and Frank King, color was free and poetic, freed from any concern for realism. After resisting color for a long time, Hergé brought a completely different pastel range to : color wisely fits into the space allotted to it. Today, while many artists use colorists, Lorenzo Mattotti, Nicolas de Crécy, Dominique Goblet and many others use direct color. Original plates are now recognized as works in their own right.
