Alain Schnapp is Professor Emeritus of Archaeology at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He was formerly Director of the UFR d'histoire de l'art et d'archéologie at the University of Paris 1 and Director General of the INHA. His work focuses on the archaeology of Greek cities, iconography and the history of archaeology. He is the author of several books and numerous specialized studies on the iconography of the Greek world, and the excavations of the sites of Laos (Calabria), Eleftherna and Itanos (Crete). He directed the European program Archives de l'archéologie (AREA). He has taught and researched at numerous European and American universities. His publications include : Le Chasseur et la cité, chasse et érotique en Grèce ancienne (Albin-Michel, 1997), Ruines, essai de perspective comparée (Les presses du réel, 2015), Journal de la commune étudiante, with Pierre Vidal-Naquet (Seuil, 2018,3rd ed.), La Conquête du passé (La Découverte, 2020,3rd ed.), Une histoire universelle des ruines (Seuil, 2020).
Riccardo di Donato heads the Laboratory of Anthropology of the Ancient World at the University of Pisa, where he was Professor of Greek Language and Literature and Director of the Department of Classical Philology. An alumnus of the ENS in Pisa, he helped organize the history of culture seminars directed by Arnaldo Momigliano, whose posthumous work he edited : Nono ( 1992 ) and Decimo contributo alla storia degli studi classici e del mondo antico (2013). A friend of Jean-Pierre Vernant, he has devoted himself to the work of Louis Gernet, whose Les Grecs sans miracle (1983) he edited, and, with his collaborators, Polyvalence des images (2004). In 1995, he republished Ignace Meyerson's Les Fonctions psychologiques et les œuvres, and, in the same year, writings by J.-P. Vernant, notably in the collection Passé et présent. Contributions à une psychologie historique. He has examined the relationship between ideology and anthropological research in Marcel Mauss, I fondamenti di una antropologia storica (1998) ; and in Ernesto de Martino, notably, La contraddizione felice (1990) and Le intrecciate vie (2015). As a Hellenist, he has edited : Origini e svolgimento del pensiero greco. Studi per Jean-Pierre Vernant (2013) ; Comincio a cantare. Contributi allo studio degli Inni Omerici (2016).
