Abstract

The law of international watercourses has been the subject of various codification efforts at regional and universal levels, envisaging international waters as shared natural resources. These instruments apply various principles and rules to the management and protection of transboundary water resources. These will be analyzed in relation to the uses of these resources and the needs of the riparian states and populations concerned. We will address the question of the conditions that must be met to ensure sustainable management of these resources at a time when access to water is becoming increasingly scarce.
