Abstract

In times of armed conflict, the protection of water and access to this resource require special attention. Certain rules of international humanitarian law, human rights law, environmental law and the law of international watercourses help to protect this resource and ensure access to water for the populations concerned. However, the law applicable in times of armed conflict, including situations of occupation, must be strengthened in terms of content and application. International criminal law must be applied to punish serious violations of the law.
