Abstract

Although water is essential to life, it is often regarded as an economic good that must be managed according to the logic of the market. This commodification of water carries risks and impacts on respect for human rights to drinking water and sanitation.Strategies based on human rights, participation and ecosystem protection must be pursued in order to overcome these pitfalls.
