Abstract

The situation today  is not a happy one: everything seems to be falling apart, and we can feel a sense of powerlessness in the face of declining biodiversity. However, there is hope : every gesture counts and contributes to protecting pollinators and their habitat. It is by mobilizing a multitude of actors and contiguous environments that the effects on a landscape scale will become perceptible. This implies that each and every one of us, private individuals and professionals alike, can and must take action at our own level : on our own land, with our neighbors, friends, family, colleagues, community... Because in reality, many of the actions we can take are simple, quick, inexpensive or not, and above all, effective. Above all, it's about sharing space and time with others. It's about transforming the world we live in, making it more habitable, fairer and more beautiful, but also about reclaiming our place with non-humans. In this seminar, after taking stock of the threats, I propose to review a number of planning, planting and management methods that are favorable to pollinators and, more generally, to the rest of the living world.

A self-taught naturalist, Hugues has been passionate about life and the protection of wildlife since childhood. Driven by his curiosity for small animals, plants and natural environments, and by a resolutely scientific approach, he has developed recognized skills in entomology, herpetology, botany, ecology and agroecology.

To combine his passion with concrete action, in 2001 he founded the ARTHROPOLOGIA association, of which he is now Scientific Director. He also co-founded the Observatoire des Abeilles, a French-language reference on wild bees. A naturalist expert, he sits on the scientific council of the Pollinator Plan sponsored by the French Ministries of Ecology and Agriculture, on the national technical committee of the Processionary Caterpillar Observatory sponsored by Fredon and the French Ministry of Health, and on the scientific council of the Conservatoire des espaces naturels Rhône-Alpes.

As a lecturer and trainer, he accompanies, advises and trains various players (public and private partners, local authorities, farmers, technicians and agronomists, elected representatives, etc.) in taking into account and protecting living organisms, changing practices, renaturating environments, agricultural transition, etc., based on a holistic approach. Hugues also gives lectures every year to students (bachelor's and master's degrees) and teachers from the world of agriculture, as well as taking part in the " One Health en pratique " diploma at the École nationale des services vétérinaires. Finally, he regularly writes popular articles and contributes to scientific publications and books.
