The seminar began with a review of the state of the art in the formation of magmatic deposits: disturbances in the magmatic processes behind the world-class Bushveld chromium, platinum group metals and vanadium deposits, and the formation conditions of the Norilsk deposits, the richest sulfide deposits (Ni, Cu, platinum group metals) in existence. The second part focused on the challenges of mining resources in a low-carbon society, with renewable energies requiring large quantities of strategic metals. The development of local mining production reduces the carbon footprint of metals, satisfies economic and social demand and secures supplies: "green mining" is currently emerging in Europe.
