Drawing is often a more accessible activity for sketching shapes and communicating them quickly than sculpture or modeling. This lecture explains how a 2D drawing metaphor can be used to create three-dimensional forms, either by offering a constructive creation through successive painting of parts or details from adapted viewpoints, or via the interpretation of one or two more complex views of an object. The representations associated with these different metaphors have been detailed, as have their applications, which range from the modeling of unknown volumetric shapes to the modeling of specific objects such as animals or clothing. The latter requires the injection of specialized knowledge into the model.
