Abstract

This lecture series ends with a more positive conclusion, highlighting a successful example of the fight against biological invasions and the rescue of a species unique to a small Pacific archipelago, a dwarf fox whose numbers were decimated in a few years without anyone understanding the reasons. Until the food chain on these islands was modeled, and mathematics was used to solve the enigma and provide solutions for the protection of this animal. But before finding the solution, scientists had to work up a cold sweat for several years, in a race against time that involved numerous ecological, biochemical, epidemiological and mathematical modeling studies. In this lecture, we'll get into the researchers' shoes and try to solve the mystery of the decline of the world's top predator.
