A new Nepalese manuscript online

Sanskrit manuscript from Nepal: the Piṅgalāmatatantra (a treatise on religious and ritual architecture)

A Sanskrit manuscript from Nepal held by the Bibliothèque d'études indiennes et centrasiatiques has been digitized. It can now be viewed online on Salamandre, the Collège de France's digital heritage library.

The Piṅgalāmatatantra is a treatise on religious and ritual architecture. It sets out the methods and rules for establishing the location and dimensions of a temple, images, installation rites, etc.

It is a copy on Nepalese paper dated 1908 of an older manuscript dating from the 12th century and preserved in Kathmandu. This copy was collected by Sylvain Lévi during one of his trips to Nepal.
