The Collège de France is lending the Musée de la Marine a recently restored chronophotograph by Étienne-Jules Marey, for the exhibition " Objectif Mer : l'océan filmé " (13 December 2023 - 5 May 2024). Closed to the public since 2017 for renovation, the Musée de la Marine offers visitors a major inaugural exhibition on the representation of the ocean in the cinematographic arts, from the 18th century and the advent of magic lanterns to the most recent works. Étienne-Jules Marey, the precursor of cinema, is featured here with one of his cameras capable of decomposing motion.
