Thomas Römer

Thomas Römer has been Professor of The Hebrew Bible and its Contexts at the Collège de France since 2007, and has held the Chair of Biblical Milieus since September 2019. He is also Director of the Institut des Civilisations and UMR 7192. His research focuses on the birth of the Bible in the context of the ancient world and the origins of monotheism. Among many other works, he has published an investigation into the polytheistic roots of monotheism, L'Invention de Dieu, Seuil, 2014, as well as a synthesis on the formation of the Hebrew Bible in the "Que sais-je?" collection, L'Ancien Testament, PUF, 2019; he also edits the journal Semitica.
