Hate speech and the radicalization of emotions

Online hate speech against migrants : fractures and divisions

This talk will focus on the epistemological and methodological challenges of contemporary research into what is commonly referred to as "online hate speech". Drawing on the results of an ongoing Franco-German project (ANR-DFG) on online hate speech against migrants, it will show that, despite their limitations, certain approaches enable a deeper understanding of the content circulating online about migrants and migration, and highlight the aporias they crystallize. The impact of the pandemic on these discourses, particularly in the French context, will also be discussed.
