Listeria monocytogenes is another intracellular bacterium responsible for serious central nervous system infections in newborns, the elderly and immunocompromised subjects. Marc Lecuit described his work, which has led to the characterization of Listeria' s invasion mechanisms in the intestine, its capacity for dissemination and infection of the central nervous system, and the identification of the factors involved.
