Abstract
A thought, in the sense of Descartes and the Cartesians, is a content of consciousness, whatever it may be. Some contents of consciousness are " representative " and have an object to which they relate. Among these, we distinguish between those whose representational content is simple and those whose representational content is complex (articulated). Among the latter, judgments are distinguished by the fact that they can be evaluated as true or false. A thought, in Frege's sense, is the content of a judgment.
