Abstract
The mechanisms of function of enhancers located at long distances from their target genes will be illustrated by a series of examples, enabling us to identify some general principles. These examples will concern genetic loci of great importance not only for embryonic development, but also from a medical point of view, allowing us to introduce the notion of" enhanceropathies ", i.e. genetic pathologies due to structural defects in the regulatory systems rather than in the genes themselves.
