Abstract
How did large-scale regulatory landscapes emerge in the course of evolution ? And are comparisons of orthologous loci between vertebrate species informative in this respect ? In comparing the structural and functional organization of regulatory sequences in fish or birds, and mammals (for example), can we find differences that may be associated with characteristics of these animals, acquired in the course of their evolution ? Some examples of work attempting to address this essential question will be discussed.
