Institute of Philosophy

Philosophy at the Collège de France is currently represented by two chairs, Professor François Recanati's Philosophy of Language and Mind chair (2019) and Professor Claudine Tiercelin's Metaphysics and Philosophy of Knowledge chair (2010), taking up, from their own perspectives, the work carried out between 1962 and 1990 by Jules Vuillemin ( Philosophy of Knowledge chair) and, between 1995 and 2010, by Jacques Bouveresse ( Philosophy of Language and Mind chair).

Over and above the diversity of styles, objects and methods, the two readings strive to reconcile a concern for texts and history, and the demands of analysis and argument, with a shared conception of philosophy as a rational and rigorous science.

In addition to the two Chairs, the Institut de Philosophie is home to three research groups set up on their initiative, as well as the activities they organize (seminars, colloquia, study days) :
