Geoengineering is the term used to describe a set of techniques designed to manipulate and modify the Earth's climate and environment on a large scale. Faced with the difficulty of public policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the amplification of global warming with its associated inconveniences, some are pushing for the implementation of geoengineering measures. However, these measures are not without undesirable effects, and ill-considered promises about their potential could slow down the implementation of emission reductions.
The symposium will describe the techniques under consideration, assess their potential and the associated risks, and reflect on the legal and ethical aspects of geoengineering. It will promote dialogue between climate scientists, representatives of the social sciences, industry and decision-makers.
