Eric Chevallier
Born April 5, 1960. Doctor of Medicine (thesis at the University of Paris V, 1989) and graduate of the Institut d'études politiques de Paris (PES section, 1987), Eric Chevallier is currently French Ambassador for Syria.
Chargé de mission at the Centre international de l'enfance (Paris) from 1989 to 1995.
Member of the founding team of UNAIDS, the joint United Nations program on HIV/AIDS, from 1995 to 1996.
In 1996, he became General Delegate of the NGO Aide Médicale Internationale.
On June 4, 1997, he was appointed advisor to Bernard Kouchner, Secretary of State for Health, with responsibility for international issues and health/social exclusion.
July 15, 1999, appointed Special Advisor to Bernard Kouchner, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo and Head of the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
In February 2001, appointed Special Advisor to Bernard Kouchner, Minister of Health.
In May 2002, appointed deputy director in charge of monitoring international crises at the General Secretariat for National Defense, attached to the Prime Minister's office.
In January 2005, appointed deputy inter-ministerial delegate and then national coordinator at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for French aid to countries affected by the tsunami.
In January 2006, appointed Director of International Missions for Médecins du Monde.
In May 2007, appointed special advisor (crisis and conflicts) to Bernard Kouchner, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs.
In July 2008, in parallel with his duties as Special Advisor, he was appointed Spokesman and Director of Information Communication for the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
On May 27, 2009, appointed French Ambassador to Syria.
Since the closure of the French Embassy in Damascus in March 2012, he has been coordinating Syrian affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as French Ambassador for Syria.
In parallel with his duties, he taught international issues and crisis management for several years at the IEP, ENA and Sorbonne.
