Abstract

In 1993, Nancy Hopkins measured her desk with a tape measure to prove to her colleagues that women were systematically discriminated against at MIT (and elsewhere)
discriminated against at MIT (and elsewhere). This began a process that culminated in a report on the status of women at MIT, which helped trigger a more general process of reflection on the status of women scientists. What does research tell us about the position of women in science today ? Are the mechanisms of bias, implicit or explicit, still as present ?
