Abstract

Women are still under-represented in professional mathematics : for example, 20 % are preparing a doctoral thesis, and 15 % are university professors - with a clear difference between "  pure " and " applied " mathematics. Mathematics internships in " non-mixité " are presented as an effective way of helping young girls gain confidence and become aware of the weight of gender stereotypes in mathematics. We'll be presenting the courses that exist in France and the reflections they've provoked, notably on the benefits of non-mixed mathematical practice. We'll draw parallels with the debate on gender diversity in other fields, such as school or sports competition (including chess).
