Abstract

Male rodents were for a long time the only study model in neurobiology, particularly for behavioral studies, with the assumption that hormones in females " disturbed " the results obtained and the underlying idea that females were " males with pesky hormones ". This is all changing, of course, but it illustrates the biases in research with implications for experimental medicine.
