Abstract

The region known as theban (Upper Egypt), populated by monastic establishments of various types, has yielded thousands of texts written on pottery shards or limestone chips, mostly in Coptic (6th-8th centuries). School texts are far from being the most numerous, and they provide only a fragmented picture of learning and educational practices, but some of them provide first-rate information . This session will examine or re-examine several such texts.
