Abstract

Drawing on sources as varied as literature, the arts, the media and new media (social networks, YouTube, etc.), in this lesson I will analyze the discourses, activities and representations of women in Vietnamese society today. The discrepancies between generations, the tug-of-war between (supposedly) traditional, revolutionary and individualist values, the weight of everyday realities and aspirations for freedom and equality in the face of gender injunctions that weigh down girls, women and mothers, the pressures of opening up to unbridled capitalism and globalization that lead many women to migrate for work in conditions of modern slavery. Between humanist values on the one hand, and the pincers of totalitarianism and the all-powerful market economy on the other, the path of commitment in civil society will be developed.
