Humans occupy a place like any other in the tree of life. Every species alive today is endowed with remarkable properties. Nevertheless, humans today occupy a special place on Earth : they have a strong impact on ecosystems, and it is the first time in the history of Living Things that a population can reflect and make choices about the planet's future. Human beings cannot help but assign values to the elements with which they interact. Take pest and invasive species, for example. The functionalization of living things, in particular with the notion of ecosystem services, encourages the substitution and replacement of living beings. Yet there seems to be a profound intrinsic value attributed to nature and living things, carried within each and every one of us.
