In Islamic, African and Arab civilizations, revolution is a new idea. In particular, the lecture explains why the modern idea of revolution did not appear in the history of Islamic civilization. This is explained by considerations drawn from philosophy of history, anthropology and theology. The viewpoint of the first Muslim observers of the French Revolution is highly significant in this respect. The idea of revolution thus imposed profound intellectual shifts and upheavals, accompanied by a forced reinitialization of language.
