This conference will focus on the new experiences of democratic revolutions in the Arab world, particularly in the years 2011/2018-2021. It all began with an anti-dictatorial revolution that was deconfessionalized, pluralist and authentically democratic. The Arab revolutions of 2011 were sidetracked and defeated by ideological fragmentation, the militarization of revolutionary forces, the confessionalization or ethnicization of political issues and, finally, the internationalization of conflicts. The conference will examine the significance of these revolutionary phenomena, explaining their failures, but also revealing their potential and projection into the future.
