Abstract

In the second part of the lecture, attention turns to electrodes designed for neural stimulation, a crucial technique for modulating nerve activity in therapeutic and research contexts. As with the recording of neural activity, electrochemical electrode-tissue principles guide electrode design to ensure safe and effective stimulation. We will focus on electrode sizing, the concept of focusing and the reduction of undesirable effects. A review of electrode materials and manufacturing techniques will also be presented.
