Reticence about truth in general, and in politics in particular, stems from misunderstandings and confusion about its concept: truth is associated with dogmatism, metaphysical-theological absolutism and infallibility. We confuse what is true with what we hold to be true, and wrongly equate truth with correspondence, coherence, utility or verification.
