We outline the seven key ideas that go to make up a convincing concept of truth, and show how it goes hand in hand with the concept of democracy: in the dual sense that democracy needs truth, and that the free expression of truth presupposes an authentically democratic space. But by returning to certain aspects of the history of the concept of democracy, we also show the inadequacy of a purely anti-liberal (Schmitt), formal or legal (Kelsen) or realist (Schumpeter) approach to the concept of democracy, and the difficulties of the aggregative model of democracy present in theories of social choice.
