Abstract
Foreigners, having caused the fall of the Akkad Empire and reigning for several decades in Mesopotamia, the Guteans have left a rather negative mark on written sources. Yet questions about their identity in the 2nd millennium remain. Were they a specific ethnic group ? Or is it one of those fluctuating designations, such as "Šubartu", "Amurru", "Lullu", which vary according to the cultural background of the speakers ? What is the difference, what is the link with the other peoples of the Zagros, the Lull(ub)eans, the Turukkeans and so many others ?
Recent archaeological research in the Transtigrine has enabled us to better understand the settlement of this vast region east of the Tigris. The aim of this workshop is to bring together archaeologists, field specialists and epigraphists to gain a better understanding of the cultural landscape in which the Guteans and other neighbouring political entities interacted.
