Launch of UXIL (Université en exil) at the Institut Convergences Migrations back-to-school event

On the occasion of its 6th academic year, the Institut Convergences Migrations, represented by its president, François Héran, and director, Marie-Caroline Saglio-Yatzimirksy, co-organized the launch of UXIL (Université en exil) alongside the Établissement public du Campus Condorcet, which brings together 11 higher education establishments, and numerous partners (COMUE Paris Lumière, PAUSE program and MEnS network).

UXIL is a seminar program designed to enable researchers and artists threatened with or forced into exile to continue their teaching activities.

This large-scale project brings together academic and associative players to co-construct and transmit essential knowledge, the fruit of the new migratory dynamics of the 21st century.

Every day, the news reminds us of the need for informed, high-level scientific research on migration. With its sights set on Europe and the rest of the world, the IC Migrations defends the principle of impartial, constructive research, with a view to re-establishing the facts through objective observations, and placing the debate on migration in an enlightened perspective, both comparative and historical.

In a context troubled by the violence of current events, we reaffirm the urgent need to move away from perceptions that are all too often erroneous, largely instrumentalized and overly emotional, and to re-establish objective, scientific knowledge on migration issues.

The Institut Convergences Migrations is a unique consortium of 8   partners: 4 research organizations (CNRS, Ined, IRD and Inserm), 3 major institutions (EHESS, EPHE and Collège de France) and the University of Paris 1-Panthéon-Sorbonne. It relies on a unique and unrivalled network of 700 researchers, 220 associated research laboratories, and a Council of Territories and Associations that brings together all those involved in migration.

The IC Migrations is structured around the following missions :

  • Offer soundresearch, by supporting social science, humanities and health science research projects on migration ;
  • Informing public debate and science-society dialogue, notably through its magazine De facto and its work with local authorities and associations ;
  • Train and pass on knowledge. To this end, IC Migrations has developed a Master's degree in Migration, co-accredited by EHESS and Université Paris 1-Panthéon-Sorbonne, and training programs for professionals.

The UXIL program is fully in line with this perspective and the missions of the IC Migrations.
