The research themes addressed by the " Techniques et économies de la Méditerranée " chair include : wine and oil production ; perfumes ; cereal cultivation and hydraulic milling ; livestock breeding ; craft practices ; trade infrastructures : from Mediterranean ports to desert trails ; trade relations and human contacts : epidemics. With this approach, we are defending archaeology, which, through the mass of scientifically established data it provides, can help us to draw some lessons from a better understanding of economic and technical systems, as well as the conditions of the collapse of ancient civilization. Our aim is to present the latest discoveries from excavations in these areas of research, to create a dynamic for the serialization of newly-acquired data. In this way, we are enriching the technical literature on industrial innovations of the Roman era and their consequences for the life and social organization of populations. More specific, long-term research has been carried out at Pompeii, at Cumae in southern Italy, in the eastern desert of Egypt and in the Telo Martius region of southeastern France.
