Biography

Born July 7, 1935 in Andernach, Germany.

Hans Belting taught art history at the Universities of Heidelberg and Munich. He is Professor of Art History and Media Theory at the newly founded New Media School (Hochschule für Gestaltung) in Karlsruhe.

At the same time, he was appointed visiting professor at Harvard, Columbia University in New York, Heidelberg University, Washington University in Seattle, the École des hautes études (Institut de l'Homme) in Paris and the Bibliotheca Hertziana (Max Planck Institute) in Rome.

He is a member of several academies, including the American Academy for Arts and Sciences, the Medieval Academy of America, the Academia Europea and, in 1994-1995, a Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Study in Berlin.

Elected member of the Order "Pour le mérite der Wissenschaften und Künste ".
