Geoengineering is the set of techniques designed to manipulate and modify the Earth's climate and environment on a large scale. Faced with the difficulty of public policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the amplification of global warming with its associated inconveniences, some are pushing for the implementation of geo-engineering measures. However, these measures are not without undesirable effects, and ill-considered promises about their potential could slow down the implementation of emission reductions. The symposium proposes a description of the techniques envisaged, an assessment of their potential and associated risks, as well as reflections on the legal and ethical aspects of geoengineering. The aim is to encourage dialogue between climatologists, social scientists, industrialists and decision-makers.
