Teacher training would benefit greatly from drawing on the contributions of cognitive science. This could be done, on the one hand, by referring to the results of scientific studies into the acquisition and learning of subjects (e.g. spelling or mathematics) and, on the other hand, to summaries dealing with (among other things) questions relating to memory or attention, as well as disorders affecting these abilities. However, teaching is a practical task : knowledge, however precise and valuable it may be, is not enough. Know-how is essential, and cognitive science can make a contribution. For example, the development of progressions, the conduct of teaching sequences and the design of exercises could also draw on research findings. These are the themes that will be developed in my lecture.
