Session 2 - Environmental protection and human rights : what alliance(s) ?

Abstract
The presentation will discuss whether the current international legal framework is adequate for the protection of persons affected in the context of climate change or whether a more specific legal regime should be developed. In this regard, it will discuss the building blocks for such legal protection.
Patricia Galvao Teles
Prof. Patrícia Galvão Teles is a member of the United Nations International Law Commission, the Permanent Court of Arbitration and the Institute of International Law. She is legal advisor to the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prof. Galvão Teles is also Associate Professor of International Law at the Autonomous University of Lisbon, Co-Director of the Singapore CIL eAcademy of International Law and Senior Research Associate at the Centre for International Law, National University of Singapore.
At the International Law Commission, she was general rapporteur at the 70th session in 2018 and co-author of the topic on the long-term work program " Sea-level rise in relation to international law ". In 2019, she was appointed co-chair of the study group on " Sea-level rise in relation to international law " and is responsible for the subtopic " Protection of people affected by sea-level rise ". She has chaired the drafting committee for the 72nd session (2021).
