Simon Martin
Simon Martin is a research fellow at the University of Edinburgh's Institute of Evolutionary Biology. He received his PhD from the University of Cambridge, where he stayed on for a research fellowship at St John's College, before taking a Royal Society University Research Fellowship to Edinburgh in 2019. His group studies speciation and hybridisation, evolution of sex chromosomes and supergenes, and the causes and consequences of chromosomal fusions and fissions. Currently their main study system are the milkweed butterflies (Danaus), and particularly the African Monarch Danaus chrysippus. The group also works on development of bioinformatic tools for evolutionary genomics.
