Abstract

Archaeological research in Tunisia has focused on the Medjerda watershed, 100 km from Tunis. The survey was systematic, covering a strip of 64 km2 in the vicinity of the cities of Thugga and Téboursouk, and was extensive all around the intensively prospected area, until it covered the entire 33 sheet.
The rural settlement of Aïn Ouassel was stratigraphically excavated to establish a pottery chronology and to retrace the living and working conditions of the settlers who were protagonists of the lex hadriana, a copy of which was found on site.

In Algeria, the landscape and the work were different. Extensive prospecting was carried out in cork-oak-covered regions along the coast and near the Tunisian border. Ancient sites were therefore more difficult to locate and date, but they were in an exceptional state of preservation, notably the Roman villa at Ksar Fatma, preserved right down to the second floor.
