Abstract

The media regularly report that the state of the atmosphere is getting worse, and that mankind is primarily responsible . Scientists now have access to an impressive array of observations (particularly by satellite). But for non-specialists, it's still hard to make sense of it all : Was the air cleaner before ? Is France a highly polluted country ? How can we tell the difference between pollutants and greenhouse gases ? Does pollution " cool " the climate ? This presentation will provide an update on what atmospheric scientists know (and what they don't yet know).
