Abstract
This lecture will present the contents of the book of Joshua and theories on its composition. It will examine the question of the historicity of the conquest of Canaan. Such a conquest never took place; it is an intervention, a counter-history, which originated in Assyrian times and is inspired by military rhetoric. The possible links between Joshua and King Josiah will also be discussed.
