Abstract
Crossing the Jordan means entering the land. Before the conquest took place, Joshua circumcised the desert generation and celebrated the first Passover inside the land. This raises the question of how these two ritualsrelateto the conquest. The chapter ends with the appearance of the leader of the heavenly army, who introduces the story of the fall of Jericho. This brief, mysterious note raises the question of the link between heavenly and earthly warfare.
