Since 2017, Michaël Murez has been a lecturer in the philosophy department at Nantes Université, which he headed from 2022 to 2024, when he joined the FILE ERC project at the Collège de France. He remains a member of the Centre Atlantique de Philosophie in Nantes.
His main project is to explore the ways in which contributions from the analytic tradition in Philosophy of Language and Mind can inform empirical research in the cognitive sciences, and how the latter can nourish philosophical reflection. More specifically, his work develops an approach to mental files that takes seriously the idea that they are representational vehicles. In particular, he is interested in applications of the file model to theorize relations between the personal and subpersonal levels, between perception and cognition, and between thought and natural language.
