Born onFebruary8 1955 in Ollioules, Var, Jean-Pierre Brun obtained his3rd cycle doctorate from the University of Aix-Marseille-I in in 1983 and his doctorate in 1999. After many years with the regional archaeology service, he became director of the Centre archéologique du Var in Toulon (1979-2000), and 1st class research fellow at the CNRS, Centre Camille de l'Archéologie class research fellow at the CNRS, Centre Camille Jullian (1993-2000) and2nd class research director at CNRS since 2001, and 1st classe since 2009. As Director of the Centre Jean Bérard in Naples, Italy, between 2000 and 2011, he was in charge of theFrench Ministry of Foreign Affairs'archaeological mission " Italie du Sud ", and Director of the Artifex program (2008-2010). In 2000, he was awarded the Langhe-Ceretto prize for the best book on wine in Alba (Italy), for Le Vin romain antique, and in 2004 the CNRS silver medal. In 2011, he was appointed Professor at the Collège de France, holding the Techniques and Economies in the Ancient Mediterranean chair. Jean-Pierre Brun has led dozens of archaeological missions in France and the ancient Mediterranean, as well as programs on crafts and agricultural production.
