The event was organized in partnership with the Institut français, France Culture, and in collaboration with the magazines la Vie des idées, Entre-Temps and the Anthropologie de la vie team of the Laboratoire d'anthropologie sociale. The CROUS de Paris was also associated with the event.
The first edition of the Nuit des idées (Night of Ideas) at the Collège de France was a great success: between 6:00 pm and midnight, almost 800 people came to listen to professors and researchers from the Collège de France, producers from France Culture and their guests, debate in public the issues raised by the theme of the 2020 edition: Being alive.
The Marguerite de Navarre amphitheatre then welcomed France Culture producer Emmanuel Laurentin for a special edition of Le Temps du débat au Collège de France, with the participation of four Collège de France professors and numerous guests. After several interviews conducted by La Vie des idées, Patrick Boucheron, professor at the Collège de France and producer at France Culture, took to the airwaves for a live conversation with writer Pierre Michon, as part of the Matières à penser program.
Six roundtables were simultaneously held in the Maurice Halbwachs amphitheatre: the themes of the origins of life and life at work were explored by the Anthropologie de la vie team, headed by Perig Pitrou; La Vie des idées presented three roundtables on spectral life, animal life and intellectual life; finally, the Entre-Temps magazine brought together four young researchers with historian Philippe Artières to discuss the multiple lives of the archive.
